About The Destination
Jaipur – The Pink City
Jaipur is Rajasthan's capital and, for most travelers, the first stop on a trip through the state. Founded in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the old city was painted pink in 1876 to welcome the Prince of Wales, and the color has defined it ever since.
It's a city built around grand architecture — hilltop forts overlooking the Aravalli hills, a City Palace still home to Jaipur's royal family, and bazaars that have sold jewelry, textiles and handicrafts for centuries. Jaipur pairs naturally with Jodhpur, Udaipur and Jaisalmer on a wider Rajasthan itinerary, but easily holds its own as a 2-3 day stop.
